This is a well thought out appraisal. Unfortunately the unacceptable behavior guide-lines have been crossed by the most prolific posters; past and now deleted and those that are presently still posting. The atheists are shown more tolerance. That suits me because I am an atheist. It's a stance I don't disapprove of; I am just making a constructive observation.

Negative forum behavior
by Simon inanother good codinghorror blog entry perfectly describes some people's online behaviour and an approach to handling it.
i'll post part of it below but to summarize, these tend to be behaviours that don't violate any specific rules as such as the people doing it try to carefully skate just up to the line but they are nevertheless disruptive and we're not going to tolerate them on this site.
if you are here to do these things then this isn't the site for you - move along, find someplace else on the internet to inhabit.. hate is easy to recognize.

Yeah, I too was raised on a mind boggling diet of modern-day Ezekiel & Revelation prophecy fulfillment garbage. It has all turned out to be utter nonsense; wild guesses based on the ramblings of deluded biblical writers who were themselves nutters.
The governing body of the Watchtower Society should hang their heads in shame and apologize for the failure of their predecessors. Instead, they will just continue to make ever louder proclamations of being led by their mythical god Jehovah of Armies.
The JWs have given their life's resources to this corrupt, power hungry organization in return for a pocketful of mumbles - oh the sorry trade.

Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

Personally, I think national flags are a good idea.
Do American posters realize that they give away their national identity every time they spell the American way, for example: baptize instead of baptise.

Simon has changed the format because the old set up was based on platform that was not compatible with many new devices. With a little patience and practice you will get used to the new set-up and in time will not want to go back to the previous format. What is truth?
by Heisenberg inwell, i have been lurking on this site for several months and i recently decided to join as a member.
i have made several observations and would like to make a few comments.. first, i am perplexed by the attitude of many on this site that are either former or active (but apostate) jws.
they seem to have a strong hatred for the wts and also for rank and file jws.

Ucantnome - I agree.
We make decisions on information that we receive from what we believe to be a reliable source. In this case an organization that claims to be appointed by God. If it turns out that the 'reliable source' is just a bunch of liars, any scorn should be directed at them and not their victims. That is how the law works in any civilized country.
Unfortunately religion is not held to the same standards of law that secular groups are. Religion is too powerful to take to task, and if it were, courts would ultimately reach the conclusion that God is just a man made excuse to exploit others. All religions would have to be shut down. Those with the power to do this have too much to lose.
It is because of this, that the Watchtower Society is not called to account for the lies it has put to print and spread around the world. The record is there for all to see.

Heisenberg - thank you for taking the time to post. Their is some merit to your observations. However many fair comments are made regarding Jehovah's Witnesses. The quote below has been posted before and is taken from, Can Jehovah's Witnesses Survive? by Trevor Willis.
It is important to realize the difference between the Watchtower Society and rank and file Jehovah’s Witnesses. The name Jehovah’s Witnesses refers to the many people who make up the congregations around the world; the membership. They will often be referred to as Witnesses. To become a Witness is relatively easy; to become an appointed member of the Watchtower Society’s management is far harder and can only be achieved by invitation. Very few are asked to join. The Governing Body manipulate all biblical text and decide how it applies Jehovah’s Witnesses. They are responsible for all policy, rules and doctrines; also the changes that have taken place in their teachings over the years.
The average rank and file Jehovah’s Witness is in a different category. Most of them are ordinary people who have been attracted to the movement by a genuine desire to understand the Bible and serve God as best they can. They are usually decent working class people, whose desire to do the right thing has led to their involvement. Their distant and sometimes hostile attitude towards those outside the movement is a result of what the Society call ‘mental regulating.’ This is achieved through magazines, books, lectures, question and answer discussions and private counseling, coupled with a fear of expulsion if they associate with anyone whom their Society see as a threat to their cause.
Most members would show a great deal more empathy if they were not actively encouraged to view all outsiders as sinners, who are about to be killed by the God they love. After many years in the movement and being trained to view all outsiders with suspicion, believing that they are a threat to their salvation, it is inevitable that some members are unable to feel love for people who are not part of their organization.

i am not usually impressed by human interest stories but this guy does more good in five minutes, does more to promote humanity in 5 minutes than a bus load of sterile literature carts and cartons of propaganda.. what say you, can one person make difference?
